USPS: Separate ALL hazardous packages for pickup; used/returned electronics ineligible for air
OpenAI Dall-E 2 – Hazardous packages awaiting pickup

USPS announced on June 6th, 2022 new requirements for separation of hazardous materials. The goal is to reduce the risk to airplanes from lithium batteries especially used electronics and the mistaken uptake of packages not intended for air.

Citing recent incidents, the USPS aims for separation of all hazardous goods regardless of whether air-safe or not. This will extend across the entire mail delivery chain including in the pickup area of your warehouse.

Going forward you should separate all hazardous and non-hazardous packages into a separate collection area. This allows your driver to maintain separation of these packages along the entire journey to your customers. Separating packages in this way will avoid accidental uptake into air cargo.

In addition to your previous labeling requirements for devices containing lithium batteries, going forward do not ship “pre-owned, damaged, defective, or returned devices containing or packed with lithium batteries” using air methods. These devices and batteries are no longer eligible for air. All devices in this used/pre-owned category must be labeled “Restricted Electronic Device” and “Surface Transportation Only”.

This could be very impactful to companies fulfilling used cell phones, portable gaming consoles, tablets, and other electronics. Regarding international shipments, used electronics are effectively banned due to a lack of available surface transport.

Amazon Buy Shipping / Seller Fulfilled Prime adds FedEx One Rate (Saturday) support

Amazon Buy Shipping / Seller Fulfilled Prime adds FedEx One Rate (Saturday) support

FedEx rolled out Saturday delivery for no extra charge as part of the regular fulfillment of FedEx One Rate shipments in order to increase competitiveness. You do not need to indicate that you want “Saturday Delivery” as a service option when using One Rate to have packages arrive on Saturday for One Rate.

Amazon’s Buy Shipping program was previously unaware of this option and did not allow you to make use of this lower-cost shipping option when shipping out packages for Seller-Fulfilled Prime orders on a Thursday or Friday which were due by Saturday. Amazon would force the use of more expensive shipping options from FedEx, UPS, or other carriers.

Now, Amazon has recently enabled FedEx One Rate (Saturday) support to their Amazon Buy Shipping program enabling seamless use of FedEx One Rate for Saturday delivery naturally as part of the shipping options FedEx returns.

If you’re looking for a seamless solution for inventory tracking which works seamlessly with Seller-Fulfilled Prime or Amazon Buy Shipping for non-Prime orders get in touch with our team today at http://www.skulabs.com/talk

Automating Decisions in Order Fulfillment

Automating Decisions in Order Fulfillment

OpenAI - Robot holds two packages with red and green lights on either side of him.

Fulfilling ecommerce orders has never been a more demanding task. Not only are there more shoppers ordering online than ever, but buyers have come to expand faster and cheaper shipping over time. Orders must be shipped as soon after they were placed as humanly possible in order to satisfy your customers and keep them coming back for more.

The problem is that your day-to-day focus isn’t on getting your orders out the door — at least, it shouldn’t be. Fast-growing brands can’t afford to spend all of their available hours on shipping orders. You need to be working on growing your business, not just satisfying existing sales. So how can you automate the work that goes into daily order fulfillment?

The simple answer is to mimic what’s already being automated in your operation. Let’s take payment processing as an example: the whole pipeline of card verification, charging, address validation, and customer notification is (most likely) handled by your shopping cart or marketplace. This is an incredibly valuable innovation we’ve enjoyed over the last few years, and it’s made possible by a few simple tenants of automation: memorization, automation, and calculation. Let’s apply those same concepts to automating your order fulfillment decisions.
